Here's a bit about The Scooter Scoop... It all started way back in January of 2005.
Still acclimating to my new home in Austin, Texas along with my wife and daughter, I began blogging about my experiences and whatever else popped into my ADD inflicted mind (which is a LOT of stuff when you sit down to log it all). GeekAustin.blogspot.com was my outlet; and on January 4, 2005 as part of a New Years Resolution it began. I covered topics like concept motorcycles, new technology, microcars, Star Wars, politics, buying obscene gas guzzlers (satire) and scooters.
As time went on I began to notice a trend. More and more of my posts were vehicular in nature, so on April 26, 2005 I announced the birth of TheScooterScoop.com. It was now no longer just an outlet for my writing, but also my outlet for change because, with as many single passenger SUVs as I seen since I moved to Austin, I thought I could talk some people into trading them in for scooters.
Building off of the inspiration from sites like 2StrokeBuzz, ScooterBBS, Engadget Gizmodo, as well my own GeekAustin, TheScooterScoop began to grow. By December of 2005 we had more than 5,000 unique visitors it doubled the next month and nearly doubled again by November. As of July 2007 TheScooterScoop attracts over 33,000 unique visitors a month from all around the globe.
Why? Why would I keep it going? What's the purpose? The answer to all of these questions is, quite simply, to build community. A strong community has influence, influence is the key to change and what we need most in America today is change. We need to change people's perception of small vehicles, we need to change people's attitudes on safety, we need to change our dependence on fossil fuels. You know what else a strong community can do? Have fun! We can share our experiences. We can educate and support each other. We can get out there and been seen, letting others know that we love being a catalyst for change.
Today TheScooterScoop is continuing to expand with contributing writers and photographers from all over the US, Canada, and even as far away as India, Australia, Portugal and Japan. We are continuing to produce our video show, TheScooterScoop.tv and have plans to create even more unique shows in the near future. We hope you enjoy your visit. As long as you keep coming back we'll keep on giving you the scoop on the latest motor scooter and microcar news, reviews, commentary and the celebration of wheeled oddities. |
